Lets begin by stating the obvious: We are in a different time and place. When the calendar changed to zeros at the end, before we were witness to some of the most influential events in human history, things were beginning to take shape. We are now in a time without definition, yet we are all children born out of a history of definitions, rules, strategies and plans that seemed to work just fine for our parents and grandparents, for businesses and institutions, for artists and those that have an appreciation of the importance of the arts in our polycultural society.
As stated, we are in a different time and place.
The "business" of business in the United States has been completely turned on its head. No longer is there a certain assuredness of how to work, what that looks like, and what responsibilities we have to adhere to in order to maintain work so that we may keep putting food on the table. The standards of the past no longer apply. Those standards were even more evident in the arts. Not standards of quality (though that is important as well) but standards of operation: how we get from Point A to Point B, and the road that carries us between the two. If you wanted to make a record, you wrote songs, played shows, tried to get the attention of record execs and sign a recording contract, played more shows, wrote more songs, etc, etc, and hopefully the money would be there behind your project, because we all just knew the money would be there, and the labels would be there, and that for the most part, things wouldnt change too much.
Or so we thought.
Now, people have the power (and the responsibility) to create their own economic engine in their own hands, if not in their own homes. Some people dont have the real world, real time experience others may have gained yet they have the love and desire to go forth. Some have the skills, but dont have the energy or support network (family, friends or associates).
There is now a means of producing the art you want, the business you want, and delivering it to the marketplace, without the Overseeing Middleman.
Now, in a world where the nature of the working life has been forced to change due to economic and social pressures, artists not only have a greater means of control in the business of their art, but must be willing to exercise that control for the sake of survival not only for their art, but for themselves on a more personal level than ever before.
World Eater Recordings was opened for 2 main reasons:
1: To be able to produce music in a professional, high end quality without being subjected to the delays and pitfalls of the "Industry of Music", which more often than not has NOTHING TO DO with the creation and production of sonic art itself.
2: To create and provide an enviornment in which artists act as the primary business managers of their art. From the penning of a song to deciding how it should be distributed to how that image is presented to the public.
We are in a time and a situation that concerns us all, musician and non-musician alike. Our survival is now more dependent on our own actions and choices more than ever before. We must all decide in very real terms what is important, what is NOT important, and how we reconcile those things into real tangible results for our lives. For myself, it comes down to music, the most open and subjective of all the art forms. No one is gonna tell me my music doesnt deserve this, that, or the other thing, and no one should be able to tell you that either. Its music. Its to be appreciated or unappreciated, but it has to be in front of the masses in order to find out the truths we seek. No one should be able to block that process anymore. The artist MUST reach the listener directly, and I believe this is as it should be.
This is why World Eater Recordings came into existence, and I hope to keep it so until it has outlived its usefulness.
So....................lets begin by stating the obvious:
We are in a different time and place.
Bands. Singer/Songwriters. Instrumentalists. MC's. Tech Heads. Spoken Word Artists. Filmmakers. Those who've been doing this too long. Those who are just beginning. Superstars or No Stars. Annoyingly Hopefull or Insanely Depressed.
Just NO WANNABE'S.
Make Music.................or Make Tracks.
